Journalists protest over Information Act

BELGRADE, Monday - Serbian journalists today protested in central Belgrade, demanding the repeal of the Public Information Act, which has earned world-wide criticism since being proclaimed in October 1998. The Independent Association of Serbian Journalists, in the first of a planned series of monthly protests, called on journalists and the public to resist the violation of the right to freedom of information.

Serbian Information Minister Aleksandar Vucic said today that the Information Act had succeeded in preventing, as far as possible, the broadcast of libels and lies as well as psychological propaganda from Serbia's enemies.
