Election media blackout begins BELGRADE, Friday -- Yugoslavia is under a media election blackout which began at midnight last night and will continue until the close of polling at 8.00 p.m. on Sunday night. Polling stations in Kosovo will close at 4.00 p.m. for security reasons, the Federal Election Commission has ruled.
During the blackout it is forbidden to influence voters' opinion or to distribute party material within fifty metres of polling stations. Media are barred from publishing articles, photographs, advertisements or statements of foreign politicians, monitors or others on the elections.
On Sunday, 7,147,197 registered voters are eligible to vote in 26 electorates in Serbia and 444,130 voters in Montenegro. According to the Federal Election Committee, more than 1.5 million voters can vote in the Vranje and Prokuplje electorates, to which voters from three Kosovo electorates have been reassigned.
