25 FOUNDING SESSION OF STUDENT'S PARLIAMENT
The founding session of the Student Parliament was held in
Belgrade on Monday, Fonet reported. The session was chaired by
former student leader Slobodan Homen. All 70 parliament members,
elected from 35 Schools of Belgrade University, were sworn in at
30 the meeting.
INDEPENDENT ASSOCIATION OF STUDENTS DENOUNCE STUDENT PARLIAMENT
The pro-government student organization said on Monday that they
could not support Student Protest 96/97 or with the Student
Parliament that had grown out of that protest because ``it
35 represented a minority view.''
``Student complaints should be solved through state institutions
and not on the streets,'' the President of the Union of Students
Nikola Vukinic said. The Independent Association has sent an open
letter to the Serbian Prime Minister requesting an urgent meeting
40 to discuss the status and work of Belgrade students.
NEW PANEL DISCUSSION
The sixth panel discussion in the Serbian parliament is to be held
on Tuesday. The topic for this session will be the ``role of the
media in the electoral process.'' The session is due to begin at 8
45 p.m. and will be broadcast live on state-owned Radio Television
Serbia.
SECOND DRAFT OF NEW INFORMATION LAW
On Monday, Serbian Minister for Information Radmila Milentijevic
told state-owned Radio Belgrade that the second draft of the Law
50 on Information would be made public by the end of the week. The
final version of the law is expected to be ready by the end of
April, when it will be handed over to parliament for adoption,
stated Mrs. Milentijevic.
SPO ATTACKS NASA BORBA
55 The opposition Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) on Monday condemened
independent newspaper Nasa Borba for ``breaking the rules of an
objective report writing,'' BETA reported. The SPO claims that
Nasa Borba had deliberatly mis-quoted reports on the candidacy of
Vuk Draskovic for the Serbian President. The SPO stated that Nasa
60 Borba had disguised the ``clear message that the SPO believed the
Zajedno coalition should boycott the elections and call further
protests should the regime reject demands for round table
discussion with the opposition.''
SESELJ TO STAND FOR PRESIDENT
65 President of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) will stand for
President in the forthcoming Serbian presidential elections, BETA
reported on Monday. On Tuesday the SRS is expected to decide when
to begin its pre-electoral campaign.
SERB REPRESENTATIVES PREPARE FOR KOSOVO NEGOTIATIONS
70 On Monday President of Serb Resistance Movement of Kosovo Momcilo
Trajkovic stated that he expected both the governing Socialists
and the opposition to form a unified position in preparation for
New York negotiations with Albanians, BETA reported.
``A common position is necessary if we are to avoid looking like a
75 rabble of cats and dogs who fight each other. That common view
must reflect the vital interests of the Serbs, rather than the
partisan politics interests of one single political parties,'' Mr.
Trajkovic stressed.
DJINDJIC IN STOCKHOLM
80 Belgrade Mayor Zoran Djindjic travelled on Monday to Sweden for a
three day visit, stated the information service of the Belgrade
City Hall, FoNet reported. Mr. Djindjic is to hold discussions
with the Swedish Foreign Minister, the Minister for Cooperation
and Development and the Deputy Mayor of Stocholm.
