MILUTINOVIC IN COPENHAGEN
20 Yugoslav Foreign Minister Milan Milutinovic met OSCE Chairman
Niels Helveg Petersen in Copenhagen on Wednesday.
After the meeting Mr Milutinovic said that the talks had been open
and constructive, and that they would encourage the positive
development of bliteral relations between Yugoslavia and the OSCE.
25 The Belgrade state media report Mr Milutinovic as saying that he
and Mr Petersen had agreed that consistent implementation of the
agreement on Eastern Slavonia was necessary for the protection of
the Serb population there.
BK Television, claiming sources in the Danish Foreign Ministry,
30 reported on Wednesday that the Yugoslav Foreign Minister had
agreed during the talks that a dialogue between the Serbian
Government and opposition was essential.
RTS MEDIA SHOW
The state controlled Radio Television Serbia (RTS) on Wednesday
35 hosted a public discussion on the media. Several parliamentary
parties participated. Of the Zajedno coalition only the Civic
Alliance of Serbia was represented.
BELGRADE BUDGET ADOPTED
The Belgrade City Council on Wednesday passed the city budget for
40 1997. Mayor Zoran Djindjic described the budget as a crisis
management, with an amount sufficient to cover the costs of city
functioning, but with no room for capital investments. He said
that further funding would only be possible through foreign loans.
EUROPHOBIA CHAMPIONS
45 An opinion poll conducted in twenty central and eastern European
countries and published by the European Commission in Brussels on
Wednesday cites the citizens of Yugoslavia as the most Europhobic
in the region.
16% of Yugoslav respondents to the survey see the European Union
50 as negative (compared with an average 6% in other countries),
while 6% see it as an actual threat.
In the light of the anti-Europe campaign in the official media, a
surprising 29% of respondents saw the EU as positive as 20% saw it
as neutral.
55 20% of Yugoslavs thought the future of the country lay with the
EU, 20% with the US and 19% with Russia.
