RADIO B92 ANNOUNCEMENT
Radio B92 has received an enormous listener response to a half-
hour documentary by B92 reporter Svetlana Lukic on Serbia's three
months of civic protest. Because of this response, Radio B92 will
rebroadcast the documentary on Thursday, February 27 at 4.00 pm,
Yugoslav time.
TEACHERS CONTINUE STRIKE
Teacher members of the trade union Nezavisnost are continuing to
strike, despite the return to work by members of the Autonomous
Trade Union. The Council of Belgrade High Schools has also said
that its members will not return to work until the government has
met their demands, particularly that for a salary increase.
About 1,000 teachers on Wednesday protested in front of the
Serbian Government Building, blocking traffic through one of the
city centre's main crossrroads.
PARLIAMENT CALL FOR CHANCELLOR'S RESIGNATION
The Education Board of the Serbian Parliament on Wednesday called
on Belgrade University Chancellor Dragutin Velickovic to resign,
in order to meet student demands.
The Board also demanded that the Serbian Government negotiate with
unions representing striking teachers, to reach an agreement which
would allow children to return to schools.
UK AGAINST MILOSEVIC
London's The Times on Wednesday said that the visit of the Zajedno
leaders to London clearly demonstrated that the British Government
was not on the side of Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic. The
Zajedno leaders were expected to discuss democratic reform in
Serbia and the Dayton agreement during a meeting with British
Foreign Secretary Malcolm Rifkind.
BUDAPEST MAYOR TO VISIT DJINDJIC
The Mayor of Budapest, Gabor Demski will arrive in Belgrade on
Friday for an official visit to Belgrade's new mayor Zoran
Djindjic. Mayor Demski will also meet the other members of the
Zajedno triumvirate, Vuk Draskovic and Vesna Pesic and students at
the University of Belgrade.
CROATIAN DELEGATES FOR BELGRADE
Croatia and Yugoslavia will continue their talks on the
implementation of the agreement on normalisation of relations
between the two countries. A six member Croatian delegation will
arrive in Belgrade on February 28. The main items on the agenda
for the discussions are the succession of the former Yugoslavia
and the social status of refugees.
FORMER INFORMATION MINISTER TURNS PUBLISHER
Aleksandar Tijanic, the former Serbian Minister for Information
and ex Editor-in-Chief of BK Television and TV Politika, will
found a new daily newspaper, Gradjanin, (The Citizen). Mr Tijanic
has announced that he is still negotiating with Dnevni Telegraf
owner Slavko Curuvija about the establishment of the newspaper,
but publication is expected to commence by the beginning of March.
