    STUDENTS VICTORIOUS

The resignations of former Belgrade University Chancellor Dragutin
Velickovic and Student Pro-chancellor Vojin Djurdjevic were
accepted by the University Council late on Wednesday night.
Students had kept a vigil in heavy snow outside the Chancery
building during the long hours of discussion which preceded the
Council's decision. After the announcement of the decision, the
triumphant students took a victory lap of their protest march
    route.

The students will now end their protest with a celebratory march
    on Thursday.

    GREEK FOREIGN MINISTER IN BELGRADE

Greek Foreign Minister Teodoros Pangalos met Serbian President
Slobodan Milosevic and Yugoslav Foreign Minister Milan Milutinovic
    in Belgrade on Wednesday.

Mr Pangalos told media that the talks concerned the crisis in
Albania, EU policy in the Balkans and the economic transformation
of Yugoslavia. He also said that Greece believed that a wide range
of pretexts in the EU for developing anti-Yugoslavia policies must
    be dropped.

    RISTIC DENIES LEFT IN-FIGHTING

The president of the Yugoslav United Left (JUL), Ljubisa Ristic,
on Wednesday told media that there was absolute agreement among
the Socialist Party of Serbia, JUL and the Democratic Party of
Montenegrin Socialists about the make-up of the new Yugoslav
    government.

Mr Ristic said that JUL had nominated its appointees for federal
ministries, but that he did not wish to discuss their number or
    which ministries they would head.

    RUSSIAN CRITICISM OF MILENTIJEVIC

Russian state radio Voice of Russia on Wednesday said that Serbian
Information Minister Radmila Milentijevic's claims about absolute
freedom of the media in Serbia could only apply to media under
state control. Voice of Russia stressed that only these
broadcasters were allowed freedom, to ignore events, to keep
silent about the truth, to falsify facts, distort reality and
    discredit the opposition.

    GREECE-MACEDONIA ENTENTE

Greek Foreign Minister Teodoros Pangalos on Wednesday met
Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov. Mr Pangalos said after the
talks that the two countries would be in close contact through
their Interior and Defence Ministries during the next two weeks,
as the crisis in Albania worsened.

The Macedonian President's office issued a statement saying that
Macedonia and Greece were willing to extend their cooperation in
    all areas.

Mr Pangalos was optimistic about the matter of Macedonia's name,
which has been an obstacle to the complete normalisation of
    relations between the two countries.

    PERMANENT SOLUTION SOUGHT FOR REFUGEES

A meeting of representatives of Bosnia Herzegovina, Yugoslavia and
Croatia began in Geneva on Wednesday. The meeting, which was
convened by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, seeks a
permanent solution to the problem of refugees on the territory of
    the former Yugoslavia.

    OSCE HIJACKING

A vehicle in which OSCE Political Director Vladimir Kuznetsov was
travelling from Pale to Sarajevo was hijacked on Wednesday. OSCE
spokesman Johan Verheyden told AFP that Mr Kuznetsov had been held
up by two masked men. The hijackers held a gun at Mr Kuznetsov and
ordered him to get out of his Jeep, before seizing the vehicle and
    driving towards Pale.
