SESSION OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL INTERRUPTED AGAIN
Thursday's meeting of the Belgrade University Council was
interrupted when The President Momcilo Babic, left the session
25 after two and a half hours. The Council had met to select a new
Chancellor and student pro-rectors. Mr. Babic told journalists
that he left the meeting because unauthorized people [i.e. members
of the student parliament] had entered the room.
SADAKO OGATA APPEALS FOR RECEPTION OF REFUGEES
30 UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Sadako Ogata, on Thursday
called on Yugoslav authorities to continue its generous policy
towards the refugees from other areas of former Yugoslavia, FoNet
reports. Mrs. Ogata on Thursday met Serbian President Slobodan
Milosevic and Foreign and Interior Ministers Milan Milutinovic and
35 Zoran Sokolovic. She said that she was not satisfied with the
speed of refugees' repatriation, but that she expected situation
to change during this year. She said that rapatriation was so far
mostly conducted through personal, spontaneous initiative, and not
on an organized basis.
40 BILDT SUBMITTED REPORT ON IMPLEMENTATION OF DAYTON AGREEMENT
High International Commissioner for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Karl
Bildt, submitted a report on the implementation of the Dayton
Agreement to UN General Secretary Koffi Anan, Beta reports. Mr.
Bildt felt that the first year after the Agreement was a year of
45 successful implementation of the first steps defined in Dayton.
The forthcoming period should be a period of stabilization and
strenghtening of the peace initiative in the BiH, especially
regarding economic issues. Mr. Bildt expressed grave concern about
the activities of the former President of Republika Srpska,
50 Radovan Karadzic, because his influence on the political life of
Serbia remains large. Some Serb leaders, particularly Momcilo
Krajisnik. tolerated Mr. Karadzic's ``shadow leadership,''
claimed Karl Bildt in his report.
EU TRADING CONCESSIONS MAY PROVIDE 60 MILLION DOLLARS FOR
55 YUGOSLAVIA
If the status of Yugoslavia in the international financial
institutions was regulated, it would generate an immediate income
of at least 60 million dollars by the end of the year, claim
Yugoslav financial experts from the Institute for Foreign Trading,
60 at the presentation of the April issue of the Institution's
regular bulletin.
