      STOJICIC ASSASSINATION

The Serbian Interior Ministry on Friday formally announced that
20 Deputy Interior Minister Radovan Stojicic had been assassinated at
12 30 am on April 11 in Belgrade. A masked attacker shot Mr
Stojicic in a restaurant. The Interior Ministry also announced
comprehensive measures for the identification and arrest of the
assassin. Mr Stojicic will be buried on Saturday April 12 in
  25 Belgrade's Novo Groblje.

The Serbian Government on Friday announced that those behind the
assassination of the deputy interior minister had shown that they
would not refrain from violence even against senior officials of
the state. The government announced new measures against terrorism
30 and violation of state institutions.

The Socialist Party of Serbia strongly condemned the assassination
of Mr Stojicic, branding it an act of terrorism and senseless
      violence.

The Serbian Radical Party issued a statement saying that,
35 regardless of political differences, it was dismayed by the brutal
slaying of the Mr Stojicic. ``This monstrous murder shows that
terrorists and criminals are no longer afraid of anyone. After
this killing, no citizen of Serbia and Yugoslavia can feel safe,''
      said the Radical statement.

  40 KORNBLUM'S FAREWELL VISIT

US Deputy Secretary of State John Kornblum met Serbian President
Slobodan Milosevic and leaders of the Zajedno coalition in
Belgrade on Friday. This is Mr Kornblum's last visit to Belgrade
before taking up a new post as US Ambassador to Germany.

45 ZAJEDNO HATCHETS TO BE BURIED

The Vice-President of the Democratic Party, Miodrag Perisic, on
Friday said that the differences within Zajedno would be solved by
the meeting of the coalition's presidential council, probably
early next week. ``Things within Zajedno are not so terrible as,
50 for example, they are within the Montenegrin socialists,'' said Mr
      Perisic.
