25,000 STUDENTS MARCH
A procession of about 25,000 students and teachers from Belgrade
University marched through downtown Belgrade on Monday. The
students were protesting for the eighty first time against the
annulment of local election results. The marchers surrounded the
University's administration building while teachers entered to
sign a petition calling for the resignation of the University
Chancellor. About 2,000 teachers have signed the petition.
LEX SPECIALIS ADOPTED
The Legislative Board of the Serbian Parliament on Monday adopted
the bill for the special law on November's local elections.
Opposition members proposed a number of amendments to the law, but
only one was carried. The amendment changes the definition of the
results from ``temporary'' to ``results according to the number of
votes at polling sites.'' Two disputed constituencies, Mladenovac
and New Belgrade, are not covered by the new law.
Justice Minister Arandjel Markicevic provoked fierce reactions
from opposition members by saying that the decisions of this law
are still liable to possible subsequent intervention by the
constitutional court.
