PESIC: MILOSEVIC'S ROLE IN ELECTORAL FRAUD MUST BE INVESTIGATED
On Saturday opposition leader Vesna Pesic told demonstrators in
central Belgrade that Zajedno would demand an investigation into
Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and his party's role in the
November electoral fraud, BETA reported. Mrs. Pesic added that
Zajedno would demand similar investigations into the police
brutality against peaceful protestors in recent weeks.
Opposition leader Zoran Djindjic said that the driving force
behind the protests and the opposition was the fight for justice
and the need for a government of professional, competent
politicians.
Opposition leader Vuk Draskovic warned that the Serbian Government
would probably try to squeeze opposition-controlled cities
economically in an attempt to undermine their good work. He said
that if Serbian authorities tried to do this the opposition would
block all tax payments to central government.
STUDENTS: LEX SPECIALIS IS EXTORTED POLITICAL ACT
Belgrade students held their 79th protest march on Saturday
evening. Earlier at a meeting in front of the School of Philosophy
the students presented their reply to Serbian President Slobodan
Milosevic's letter to Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Marjanovic.
In that letter the students called the 'lex specialis' an
unconstitutional political act which attempted to cover up the
Novemebr election fraud. The letter then said that the law
revealed ``the autocracy of one man in Serbia.''
NIS SEATS NON-NEGOTIABLE
Branislav Jovanovic, President of Nis City Council, told people at
Saturday's Nis protest rally that the number of seats controlled
by the opposition in Nis was non-negotiable.
Mr. Jovanovic also warned that the new city government would have
a tough few months ahead as more than 27 million dinars had been
stolen by the out-going Socialist council.
TEACHING UNION TO SUE SERBIAN GOVERNMENT
The teachers' branch of the Trade Union 'Nezavisnost' decided on
