CIVIC ALLIANCE BACKS DRASKOVIC
The leader of the Civic Alliance of Serbia, Vesna Pesic, on
Wednesday said that the party saluted the nomination of Serbian
Renewal Movement leader Vuk Draskovic as Zajedno's candidate for
25 Serbian president.
DANIC DENIES NEW YORK REPORT
Socialist Party spokesman Ivica Danic on Wednesday rejected claims
that he would represent the party at next week's Serb-Albanian
dialogue in New York. Mr Danic said that the Socialist Party had
30 still not replied to the invitation for the conference.
BROADCAST TENDERS IN APRIL
Serbian Information Minister Radmila Milentijevic on Wednesday
said that the tender process for radio and television frequencies
would be held in mid-April. She said that the state had not
35 regulated the use of frequencies for the past six years and that
186 radio and 72 television stations were broadcasting without
licences.
Miss Milentijevic said that she supported foreign investment in
Serbian media but insisted that the state must be informed of the
40 source of finance. ``A great deal of the media which is known as
independent is getting support from abroad, and this should be
made known, without political interpretation,'' the minister
added.
RUGOVA MEETS US IN BELGRADE
45 Kosovo Albanian leader Ibrahim Rugova on Wednesday met US
diplomats in Belgrade. The talks centred on the situation in
Kosovo.
Mr Rugova warned that the situation in Kosovo was very difficult
and demanded that the US and the EU mediate between Pristina and
50 Belgrade.
BALKANIA
The leader of the Parliamentary Party of Kosovo, Adem Demaci. said
on Wednesday that he was working for the formation of Balkania, a
confederation of three states, Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro, to
55 be joined by Macedonia. Mr Demaci added that Kosovo independence
was essential for this.
EUROPEAN MONITORS FOR CROAT ELECTIONS
The Council of Europe has accepted an invitation from the Croatian
Government and UNTAES to send monitors to local and regional
60 elections in Croatia.
