Belgrade police forbids the petition for Milosevic to resign

Only one hour after the action started, on every of the 29 locations organized by the Alliance for Change, at which the citizens put their signature on the demand for the resignation of the President of the FRY Slobodan Milosevic, the police appeared and verbally forbid this action. Their explanation was that "the material which is handed out is not in accordance with the official permit issued to the Alliance upon their demand". The police threatened the activists of the Alliance with arrests.

On that occasion Marko Djurishich, the president of the local branch of the Democratic Party for Novi Beograd and the member of the City Assembly of Belgrade, was taken in for interrogation.

In spite of the attempt of the police to ban the action of the Alliance, the signing of the petition for the resignation of Slobodan Milosevic will continue tomorrow, and the days to come. About the locations where it will be organized the Alliance will notify the public during the afternoon.

The petition, in the meanwhile, can be signed in the offices of the Belgrade branch of the Democratic Party, Terazije
