[Duurzaamlijst] Rising Tide festival aankomende dagen

Hallo,

Het ziet er niet zo rooskleurig uit voor het klimaat. COP6 doet niets, kan niets en wil niets. Europa probeert een consensus te bereiken maar botst tegen grote onwil aan vanuit de VS, Japan en Australie. Nucleare energie is nog altijd niet uit het verdrag gehaald, sinks (natuurlijke opslagplaatsen) bestaan nog en de oneerlijke handel in uitstootrechten ook. Mogelijke oplossingen liggen wel in het verschiet, maar zolang de grote groep van 'ontwikkelings'landen zich niet op een andere manier groepeerd, bijvoorbeeld in 'progressief' en 'conservatief' zal het alleen maar tussen de grote economische machten gaan. 
(onbegrijpelijk dat Mozambique en Saoedi Arabie in dezelfde onderhandelingsgroep zitten, met Nigeria als spokesperson... een land als Mozambique wordt regelmatig met hevige overstromingen getroffen, saoudi arabie wilt nu al vergoedingen hebben voor als er gereduceert gaat worden (verlies van inkomsten door verminderende olieverkoop) en nigeria = shell.) 

Er is dus niets bereikt, en weinig zal ook bereikt worden. De kantjes zullen bijgesneden worden maar de kern van het verdrag zal overeind blijven, marktvorming vormt de weg naar klimaat stabilisatie... Voor ons van de rising tide coalitie reden genoeg om de acties te verharden. Geen klimaatverdrag zonder werkelijke reductie, gelijkheid en economische hervormingen. Om onze stem kracht bij te zetten, zullen de aankomende dagen een vloedgolf van actie zien.

(maar ja, of jullie daar iets van de reguliere media zullen horen... tsja, ik heb zelf nog niets gezien en/of gelezen - we worden weer eens genegeerd. Zelfs de dijk van milieudefensie stond bijvoorbeeld niet eens in de Volkskrant. check http://www.climateconference.org voor onafhankelijke media en onze verhalen - helaas in engels).

Morgenochtend zullen er een 4tal demonstraties op hetzelfde tijdstip plaatsvinden (en de politie is daar helemaal niet blij mee), na de lunch is het tijd voor prikacties en 's avonds en 's nachts weer voor de kroegen/hotels/vlaggen tour. De lobbyisten vinden het in elk geval heel vervelend. 

Donderdag is er vanaf 6 uur een political art gebeuren op de Rembrandtstraat en vrijdag is er een Blauwe Kraak optocht door de stad (20 jarig bestaan blauwe aanslag), mede ondersteund door de rising tide coalitie. Rond deze twee happenings zullen er vele onverwachte/directe/confrontatieve acties plaats vinden. Hier kan er natuurlijk weinig over gezegd worden, maar wel dat je als de wiederweerga hier naar Den Haag moet komen. Het is hier gezellig, druk en helemaal niet koud. Er zijn voldoende slaapplaatsen en voor eten wordt er dagelijks gezorgd. Neem wel even je slaapzak mee en zo.

(Wat betreft zaterdag, dat is nog afwachten want officieel is het zaterdag afgelopen... wij gaan echter door net zolang als de conferentie door gaat.)

Hieronder nog even wat vaste logiestieke gegevens:
woensdag, o.a. anti-nuke demo om 0930 verzamelen bij paviljoen malieveld en The Bet om 1030 bij Concordia (hoge zand 42). 
donderdag, o.a. political art event Rembrandstraat 70 1800-0100
vrijdag, o.a. blauwe optocht - voor 13.00 bij Blauwe Aanslag (Buitenom) verzamelen.

Rembrandtstraat is actiekamp en vrij toegankelijk voor al het publiek donderdag avond. Publiek info point overdag voor iedereen toegankelijk op Houtzagerssingel 45.

SUMMARY ON LATEST EVENTS

Samba, dance, sing and yell your way into protest! Once you’re in, disturb and discuss. Never cease to think. Public discussion based on all relevant information about climate change is our direct aim. We have our own summits and invite ourselves into those where they don’t want us. 

Not many have been present in the actual conference centre and others have been banned from being inside.  Therefore many don’t know what’s actually going on there. In a way it is business as usual: lobby groups as the Global Climate Coalition are organising meetings in order to bring the interests of business under one banner, i.e. releasing the power of the market. And other groups backed up by their governments are still pushing for nuclear energy as leading solution to climate change. The European delegation is offering all kinds of political arrangements to the US, Japan and Australia to reach a consensus who are still rejecting most of these proposals. So, the EU made a statement accusing the US of threatening the entire Climate Convention and the US responded “we have just as much to lose as the rest of the world”.  The latest update is that the US delegation proposed to use sinks only to meet 20% for their reduction targets (and trade 80%). In the meantime more NGO’s are discussing what good it is to support a trade treaty offering different means for business to profit from climate change which does not have environmental concerns at it’s heart.

Did the delegates ever hear about Climate Justice? This Sunday and Monday people from all over the world came down to the Concordia to discuss how one could understand climate justice. If only delegates and lobbyists had the guts to come over and listen to the voices of those suffering, a common understanding about the social and environmental impacts of their ‘private and public’ policies might be developed. This would have more influence on climate talks than ‘our people on the inside’ have. Since last Thursday they have been banned from the climate talks. With their mouths taped, demonstrators against silencing A SEED's voice inside the conference centre, blocked the stairway and elevators of the Ministry of the Environment on Monday afternoon. The UN stated that “certain environmental NGOs complained to them about members of the ASEED list”.  This has yet to be confirmed but is the official line from the UN.  Provoking a promise to negotiate, they are still talking…

 On Sunday afternoon, after having constructed the biggest bicycle of the world on the Spui Square, a critical mass of people, bicycles, the Rinky Dink bicycle team, a dragon, and the blue & silver samba band marched, pedalled and danced their way to the conference centre. Leaflets were handed out telling motorists about the Rising Tide festival, cars were forced to back-up and the police got confused. After a midday break and a performance action on how to defend the earth, the party continued at the environmental ministry building on Sunday evening. Around 300 activists opened the Ministry’s courtyard for an alternative reception party for those arriving to the official COP6 party.  

If lobbyists don’t want to come to us, we will invite ourselves to their meetings. With that idea in mind the Green-Wash Guerillas disrupted the exhibition Climate Tech2000 on Saturday. The activists describe their tactics as a way to expose and oppose corporate “greenwash” - i.e. expensive marketing expenditures to make people believe that their economic policies are environmental and social just. Tuesday morning activists attended and cancelled the annual meeting of the International Emissions Trading Association at the Crown Hotel. Representatives of Shell, BP and Arthur Andersen could now participate in our discussion and enjoy a play on the marriage between the UN and the IETA. Other actions that took place was the building of the dike on Saturday, a Korean art-sculpture and chimney painting on Tuesday, guerilla actions of the flag-pulling-down-posse and the-wake-up-lobbyists activists. 

Agenda
On Wednesday, the police will become a bit confused, as several actions will take place on the same time. Early in the morning at ten at Concordia, the BET will be doing a mass underwater demonstration at the conference centre, the Finnish people are mobilising for an action at the Finish embassy (1500 at Prof. Teldersweg) and the local squat community is demonstrating at the City Hall at ten as well. The anti-nukes demo supported by all environmental NGO’s will start at 10 at Malieveld. Be prepared, this 'Nuclear Walk of Shame' will pass by all the important embassies! On Thursday, the international day against carbon trading, a political art festival will take place on the Rembrandtstraat and on Friday many actions will take place simultaneously but be there for the local squat parade through the city as well!
